SINGER® celebrates 173 years since inventing the first practical sewing machine, maintaining industry leadership through our commitment to quality, reliability, innovation and service.

 

SYNONYMOUS WITH SEWING

Since 1851, the name SINGER® has been synonymous with sewing. This was the year Isaac Singer patented his first practical sewing machine, marking the official beginning of SINGER® as a company and its leadership in the industry. The spirit of practical design and creative innovation that characterized the company in its early days continues today as we develop products for all levels of sewing. SINGER® has celebrated many firsts, including the world's first zigzag machine, the first electronic machines, the first sewing assistant app for mobile devices and much more. From fashion to home décor, embroidery to quilting and more, SINGER® is dedicated to helping people express themselves through the art of sewing.

 

CELEBRATING MANY FIRST PLACES

1851: Patent granted for the first SINGER® brand sewing machine. SINGER® on August 12, 1851.

1855: The brand SINGER® brand receives first prize at the World's Fair in Paris, France. In the same year, SINGER® becomes the world's best-selling sewing machine brand.

1858: The brand SINGER® brand introduces the first lightweight domestic machine, the Grasshopper™..

1865: The brand SINGER® introduces the "New Family" sewing machine "New Family".. The U.S. Civil War ends.

1870: The brand SINGER® brand with the red "S" makes its debut. Its brand is produced in several languages and becomes one of the most recognized trademarks in the world.

1889: The brand SINGER® introduces the first practical electric sewing machine

1890: The brand SINGER® brand achieves 90 % market share worldwide.

 

STATE-OF-THE-ART SEWING

1921: The SINGER® brand SINGER® brand introduces the Portable Electric™an electric motor-driven model.

1929: Overall sales of sewing machines in the United States decline. The SINGER® brand SINGER® brand attributes this to the social trend Flapperwhich was characterized by emancipated women moving away from the traditional role of housewife.

1933: The sewing machine is introduced. Featherweight™ 221 at the Chicago World's Fair. This machine remains in production for more than 30 years and remains an iconic image of the brand. SINGER®.

1939-1945: The brand SINGER® ceases to develop sewing machines to focus on the production of wartime goods.

1951: The 600 sewing centers of the brand SINGER® have trained some 400,000 housewives.

1952: The brand SINGER® brand introduces its Slant-o-Matic™the first zigzag machine.

1975: The brand SINGER® brand introduces the world's first electronic sewing machine, the Athena™ 2000.

1978: The brand SINGER® brand introduces the Touchtronic™ 2001, the world's first computer-controlled machine.

1985: The brand SINGER® brand introduces an entirely new line of state-of-the-art sewing machines with models designed to meet individual needs and budgets, including innovations for stitch patterns, monograms and embroidery.

 

SEWING MADE EASY

2001: The brand SINGER® brand commemorates its 150th anniversary with the introduction of the Quantum™ XL-5000the world's most advanced home sewing and embroidery machine at the time, one of the most powerful and user-friendly systems on the market.

2005: SINGER® introduced the Futura™machine, the most affordable computer-enabled embroidery machine on the market at the time.

2007: Introduces the machine Inspiration™an iconic new entry-level machine that uses modern advances to emphasize ease and simplicity.

2010: Second generation sewing and embroidery machine launched. Futura™sewing and embroidery machine, the XL 400.

2011: The brand SINGER® brand celebrates its 160th anniversary, which is commemorated with the issuance of the patent for the first SINGER® sewing machine. SINGER® on August 12, 1851.

2015: New line of machines launched with modern features and the iconic body design from SINGER®

2017: SINGER® launches the world's first sewing assistant app to get sewing help on the go.

2024: SINGER® introduces the cutting machine for handicrafts MOMENTO™which enables crafters and seamstresses to create moments that matter. The latest innovation features ultra-fast cutting speeds, an extra-large 24" project surface and premium fabric cutting capabilities, ensuring a seamless creative process.
